The Great Bear Rainforest IMAX Film
Shot between 2016 and 2018, the Great Bear Rainforest giant screen film is a tribute to a beautiful and rare part of the B.C. coast and the First Nations who have stewarded it for millennia. On the technical side, it was also a foray into new digital territory for IMAX films. The new 8K RED Helium sensor was launched the year we started shooting, and our crew put it to the test in a variety of topside, underwater, and aerial setups. The film has been widely acclaimed and has won numerous international awards for its cinematography and its educational value.

The Gear
This film was shot using largely a RED Helium 8K mounted on a tripod, in an underwater housing, on a Freefly MoVi, on a Freefly Alta 8 drone, and in a Shotover. The other main camera used was an Arri 65, with a select few shots in IMAX 70mm film and select shots with the Phantom Flex 4K.
The film and the behind-the-scenes were edited in Avid Media Composer over a one year period, and premiered in January 2019.
